Emma Rabinowitz
In my investigation, I wanted to explore humanity's relationship with nature and its repercussions, including false perceptions of nature and the destructiveness of our relationship with nature. Each piece includes some aspect of both nature and humans. The first couple of pieces are more innocent and idealized, especially the first one which shows a romanticized view of our relationship with nature. In pieces 3-5, I experimented with household settings to demonstrate and explore the displacement of nature into domestic settings for our benefit and consumption. With piece 6, the investigation transitions more into the aspects of our relationship with nature that are more overtly and widely destructive. By experimenting with distortion of the human face and relating this to the green fumes from the factory, I demonstrated how not only is this relationship destructive to nature but to ourselves as well. The last piece represents the responsibility that humanity has with protecting the earth and repairing our damaging relationship with nature.
