My sustained investigation was guided by the idea of the decaying population of blue collar america, especially in the area in which I live, Southern Westchester. There are countless families who have been impacted over the years by the closing of factories and other blue collar establishments. So naturally, along with the idea comes the exploration of the concept of decay, and emptiness. Each photo  in the concentration exhibits an element of vacancy, whether it be the limited to no portrayal of people, or the general dreary nature of each picture.  In order to achieve this goal, I decided to include a variety of images where some were more interpretive  nature, while others more straight forward. I found that this gave the viewer an understanding of the subject being investigated while preserving the ability to interpret the meaning of each image based on a variety of aspects. I came to this method after creating concentrations prior to the final, each one being either too abstract, or too straight forward. As I continued to shoot, finding the balance between the two extremes began to emerge.
