To me, pottery is all about producing beautiful and functional objects, handmade from earth and molded by the firing process. I asked, what do I want to make and how can I make it beautiful, creating balance and mood in an object, yet functional, entailing sensibility, form, and weight.

My work largely centers around making iterations of pots. While I intuitively start with an idea of a pot, it is the process of translating it to a physical, functional, and sensible object that I am investigating. When beginning to throw, I will begin with a specific idea of form, shape, glaze, and firing atmosphere. I tend to make about a dozen of the same shape, each form is a sketch, but in every set there are one or two that are particularly beautiful, sensible, and functional - the art that I want to project as an artist.

Through my photographs I try to show this iterative process as well as the mood, aesthetic, and balance I attempt to create when establishing small groups of pieces from the hundreds that I have made. The photography works in junction with the craft of ceramics, allowing me to create a mood using lighting and arrangement and show my process of repetition for perfection.
