Eve

Aronoff.

For my investigation, I wanted to create a series of untold stories. I wanted each photograph to tell a story that can be up for interpretation. I experimented with both film and digital photography because I found they had different effects on the final image. I chose my locations, costumes, actors, makeup very carefully. I wanted to show feelings and emotions in my photography, but wanted the images to maintain a sense of mystery and of the unknowable. With my digital photography, I experimented with the idea of color play and contrast. I arrived at this idea from my fascination with vintage photographs and films. I really love when clothing changes the way people look and are perceived. I think letting the viewer decide what the story is is the best kind of open ended excitement.

In my sustained investigation, I explored how different fabrics and materials influence the expressive quality of garments.

I arrived at my idea of focusing on the varied qualities of different materials from my love of fashion. I’ve been sewing clothes for about four years now and am going to college for fashion design next year. Personally, I love how different textured and patterned clothing can change the way a person feels and is perceived. Throughout the creation of this portfolio, I grew a lot and learned how to work with a variety of challenging materials. My work evolved as I gained mastery working with complicated and textured fabrics. I am now more comfortable creating my own patterns and expressing my personal vision through sewing.
