Vavra.

I’m inspired by mathematics. I’m intrigued by how formulas can predict change and outcomes, the ways patterns and tesselations can so perfectly fill a space with no gaps or overlaps, and the idea of perfect symmetry which recognizes flipped images as both the same and opposites.

Some of my prints are made with several versions of the same design on different blocks so that the final printed image can be reconstructed in an array of patterns. My intention is to show how in the act of change or metamorphosis, literally or figuratively, there are infinite paths and outcomes, because even a slight alteration within the process of making prints will cause noticeable yet subtle variations. My ten pieces only focus on four subjects, each subject is featured in a couple of separate pieces that take on different transformations, and show them in a different light, but they all come from the same place.
