My sustained investigation was inspired by my love for my great-great grandfather George De Forest Brush’s Indian paintings. It is a reflection of my commitment to learning more about the failure and success of inclusion as it relates to Native Americans.

I chose to use pen because I wanted to get a lot of detail. I used each piece of art as an outlet to experiment with a different types of strokes and textures. Instead of going for a realistic look like my great-great grandfather was known for, I tried to capture the emotional reality with its rough edges. My investigation began focusing on how Native Americans were the true founders of America and shifted to questioning what it means to be included in American society and how Native Americans have been wronged up until this day.
